OUR TRAINING PROGRAMS

Our swim program runs alongside the school term, however crash - courses are run during Christmas, Easter and summer breaks. It is a rolling curriculum allowing swimmers to start at any point during the term.

The American Red Cross learn-to-swim classes provide instruction to help swimmers of all ages and abilities to develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to give students a positive learning experience. Learn-to-swim teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression.

The objective is to teach people to swim and to be safe in, on and around the water.

Skills are categorized in the following way: water entry and exit, breath control and underwater swimming, buoyancy, changing direction and position, treading, swimming on front back and side, general and personal water safety, helping others.

Students in level 1 are oriented to the aquatic environment and gain some basic skills in each category. At later levels, students build on their basic skills to learn propulsive movements on the front, back and side.
They learn different swimming strokes at various levels and then refine them at late levels. Personal safety and rescue skills are included to help students meet safety goals.

By the end of level 6, students have all the pre-requisite skills and developed the necessary fitness level for entrance into American Red Cross lifeguard training and water safety instructor courses.

Note: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you not begin formal swimming lessons until kids are at least 4 years old. That is the age children are thought to be ‘developmentally ready’ for swimming lessons. That doesn’t mean that your younger child can’t be taught to enjoy the water. Infant and toddler aquatic programs are very popular among parents and kids and are a good way to teach your kids to enjoy being in the water.

Note:
  1. ALL CHILDREN WILL BE ASSESSED ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS AND MAY BE MOVED TO A DIFFERENT LEVEL AND TIME.
  2. CHILDREN PER GROUP IS 5
  3. THE LESSONS ARE CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH LANGUAGES
Parent's Note
  1. Do not expect your child to be able to swim soon after they are introduced to the water. It depends on individual learning ability. As a parent, you should focus on the long-term goal and avoid putting pressure on achievement and expecting quick results, this may become counter-productive.
  2. Don’t be over ambitious towards your child’s progress. Allow them to gradually develop and to improve at their own pace. There is no shortcut in learning to swim. Practice makes perfect. Every child needs regular lessons and training, never try to hurry! Your child will learn much more in short regular visits than in the occasional long one. A child’s attention span is extremely short. The younger the child, the shorter the attentions span. Young children concentration span is about twenty minutes.
  3. If your child no longer seems to enjoy the water, don’t give up! Continue your regular lessons. Do not waste all the earlier good work. It is a good idea to just hang around and watch as the others carry on, rather than skipping lessons
  4. Don’t compare your child with others. Everyone has different learning abilities.
  5. If your child cries during the lesson, it doesn’t mean that your child is not ready for swimming lessons. Your child may be adjusting to the separation from mom and dad and getting accustomed to the new surroundings, or just having a bad day. Give your child some time and let him develop his confidence.
  6. If your child accidentally swallows water during the lesson. Don’t worry; this is a learning process

Adult Lessons

Age is not the barrier. It is never too late to learn swimming
Most adults may not have had the opportunities that parents are able to give their children today, and as a result didn’t receive good swimming tuition at a modern swimming school. Physical Educationalists and Medical Practitioners have now realized the great benefits that swimming and exercise in water can give to the older body. Swimming is recognized as the most beneficial cardiovascular and muscular joint mobility exercise possible.
These classes are designed to promote learning and improve aquatic skills.
